Trade Associations
- California Cannabis Industry Association (CCIA): cacannabisindustry.org — California's oldest and largest state cannabis trade association, headquartered in Sacramento. CCIA represents 500+ members and 670+ brands, leads legislative advocacy (instrumental in passing AB 564), and hosts regular policy briefings, networking events, and industry conferences
- Origins Council: originscouncil.org — A coalition of six regional cannabis farming associations representing 900+ member farms, primarily from the Emerald Triangle and other legacy cultivation regions. The council advocates for appellation protections, small-farm tax relief, and cultivation cap enforcement. Member associations include Humboldt County Growers Alliance, Mendocino Cannabis Alliance, and four other regional groups
Advocacy & Consumer Organizations
- California NORML: canorml.org — The state chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, focused on consumer rights and policy reform. CA NORML was a lead sponsor of AB 564 (excise tax reduction) and continues to advocate for DUI law reform, employment protections, and federal policy change
- Supernova Women: supernovawomen.com — Founded by Amber Senter in Oakland, Supernova Women supports BIPOC entrepreneurs entering the cannabis industry through education, networking, mentorship, and direct assistance with licensing and business development. Has become a national model for cannabis equity advocacy
Supply Chain & Distribution
- Cannabis Distribution Association (CDA): distributeca.org — Represents the distribution segment of California's cannabis supply chain, including distributors, transporters, and logistics providers. CDA was a key coalition member behind AB 195 and advocates for streamlined distribution regulations and inter-regional transport policies
Regional Farming Organizations
California's cannabis cultivation heritage is concentrated in specific regions, each with its own advocacy organization:
- Humboldt County Growers Alliance (HCGA): hcga.co — Represents Humboldt County cultivators, the heart of the Emerald Triangle. Advocates for small-farm preservation, appellation protections, and tax relief for legacy operators
- Mendocino Cannabis Alliance (MCA): Represents Mendocino County cultivators. Works alongside HCGA and the Origins Council on regional cultivation issues and environmental compliance
- Napa Valley Cannabis Association (NVCA): napavalleycannabisassociation.org — Represents cannabis operators in Napa Valley, drawing on the region's wine industry heritage to advocate for craft cannabis production, appellation standards, and tourism integration

CCIA and the Origins Council both offer tiered membership with benefits ranging from policy alerts to direct legislative representation.
